Moreover, when you add this upgrade option, your 2610/2611 Router will be shipped pre-loaded with IOS 12.4.25d!
Having your 2610 (or 2611) Routers loaded with IOS 12.4 allows you to do important functions such as 802.1q VLAN Trunking (encapsulation dot1q command).
802.1q VLAN Trunking is an important feature, because it allows a configuration known as a Router-on-a-Stick, which provides Inter-VLAN Routing and which is a typical problem/question seen in CCNA exams.
Since the 2610 (or 2611) typically comes with 32D/8F, you would need to upgrade to Max. Memory (64 Mb. RAM & 16 Mb. Flash) in order to load the latest IOS 12.4.25d and thus allow VLAN Trunking and Router-on-a-Stick configurations.
