What is a Terminal Server Anyway
In case you are not familiar with Terminal Servers, this document provides a quick overview of this important device (TS) and explains how you can benefit from having one in your Lab!
In general terms, a Terminal Server is a device that allows you to access multiple devices from a single point! That way you won’t have to keep switching Console cables to access each individual device.
Instead, you simply switch between Terminal Server Lines by pressing a special combination of keyboard keys: 'Ctrl+Shift+6' (all 3 keys at the same time) and then 'X'
For more specific instructions, please check out the following document: Configuring a Cisco Terminal Server

New CCIE R&S Certification
The new Lab Exam includes the following main changes:
• The Catalyst 3550 is no longer part of the equipment list for the CCIE R&S
• A new MPLS section has been added to the the CCIE R&S Lab Exam
• A new Troubleshooting section has been added to the the CCIE R&S Lab Exam
Almost nothing has been taken away from the current CCIE Lab Exam. The new Blueprint includes the same topics of the 3.0 version, with the addition of the MPLS and the Troubleshooting sections.
The QoS functions of the Catalyst 3550 is the only section that is no longer part of it. However, that doesn't mean that they are useless, because they can still be used for the critical Routing section of the Lab Exam!
So until prices on the 3560's come down, the 3550's are still an excellent alternative and offer the BEST price/benefit ratio!
