This is a Voice-enabled Cisco 2911 ISR G2 Router loaded with CME 12.0 (Cisco Unified Comm. Manager Express). IOS version is 15.7
CME 12.0 provides support for the most current IP Phones such as the 78XX, 88XX and 99XX (these IP Phones are not supported under CME 8.6)
Memory Size is: 512 MB DRAM and 256 MB Flash.
This 2911 Router includes the following Voice Cards and Modules:
- VIC2-4FXO Analog Card (needed to make Phone Calls outside the LAN)
- VIC3-2FXS Analog Card (needed to connect a Analog Phone to the Router)
- PVDM3-16 Module (needed to enable both Voice Cards)
These Voice Modules (FXO/FXS Cards and PVDM Module) enable this Router to make & receive Phone calls through an External Phone Line!
You can also connect a Standard/Analog Phone to the Router through the FXS card.
This allows you to make/receive Phone Calls on this Phone instead of an IP Phone.
Note: An active Phone Line is needed to make/receive External Phone Calls. The Phone Line can be implemented in multiple ways: standard Land Line, Vonage, Magic Jack, etc.
The Router is shipped Fully Configured and ready to use in a VoIP Phone Network (SCCP & SIP)

IP Communicator is a Software-based Phone (or Soft-Phone) that can be used to make actual phone calls.
You can even install IP Communicator on more than one PC and thus simulate a Phone Network without actual IP Phones!
Moreover, it supports multiple lines and directory numbers and therefore it can handle multiple calls!
The Disk also includes a Lab Exercise Guide (eBook in PDF format): CCNA Voice Lab Manual
Configuration/Operation:
With this Router you can implement a LAN-based Phone Network that can also make & receive Phone calls outside the LAN using the Voice Modules included with it.
To connect IP Phones to the CME Router you would need LAN Switch; if possible with PoE (Power over Ethernet) which would eliminated the need for Phone Power Supplies.
One port of the Switch would be connected to the Router's Ethernet interface, while the other ports would be used for the IP Phones.
As mentioned above, an Analog Phone can be connected to the Router through the FXS card.
This simplifies the operation of this system, because you would not need to connect a Switch and IP Phones. You can make/receive Phone Calls simply using this Analog Phone!
Detailed configuration is needed in the Router (6 sections) in order to support SCCP & SIP Phones
Note: As mentioned above, an active Phone Line is needed to make/receive External Phone Calls.
A regular Phone Cable, with RJ-11 connectors at both ends, is needed to connect the FXO card to the External Phone Line.
